Just to backup my post from yesterday about next Google Page Rank update.

Last night when I was checking my websites stats in StatCounter (Free web tracker) I noticed something interesting.

You can check this out yourself. Go to Google and type in “seo tips” in search box.

Scroll down and you will see that this site seojr.com ranks #9 on first page (with PR 0 ) and below me is seobook.com (with PR 6 ) and on next page there are many more with better PR than me.

Now how is that possible?

Like I stated in yesterday’s post, DON”T obsess with pare rank ,work on it but don’t spent all your time with it. Concentrate on creating unique content and optimize your pages and meta tags with right keywords .

You can still build page rank slowly by getting Quality One Way Links with Free Directory Submitter and Free Article Submitter software but your main focus should be CONTENT, CONTENT and CONTENT.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

Enjoy.

Everyone seems to be asking and wondering When is Google’s next PageRank update?

I keep seeing all over the net, webmasters and bloggers wondering if their PR is going up or down. SEO community and Forums are buzzing about it and I see it to often people out there who are getting so wrapped up in SEO and Page Rank they neglect the real issue; Building Quality Website or Blog.

Don’t get me wrong, Link building for PR is important part of SEO but most important thing in getting good Search Engine Rankings is CONTENT! and more Quality Content!

You still need to utilize some Crucial Search Engine Optimization principles because it will help your website or blog reach it’s potential – but don’t obsess with it.

You do need to find time to Optimize your pages and meta tags with right keywords but if you spend more time on building quality content on your website you will get ranked well in Search Engines. In fact I have couple of websites with low PRs (PR 1-2) and they do more better in the results, than the higher PR sites. Keyword usage and density both influence ranking and Google will look for these two factors and in most cases, the page with a lower pagerank (1-2) come what may still be given a better ranking.

And yes and according to this source Page Rank is being updated but remember Google is in the business of helping their users find great, authoritative and credible content on any given topic and I’m increasingly becoming convinced that the more you spend time building sites that have that content the more highly you’ll be ranked in Google.

So don’t stress too much over next Google PageRank Update and concentrate on and do your best in creating good quality content for your website or blog and PageRank will come to you.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

Enjoy.

Knowing the PageRank of your sites is important – in a sense, PageRank is what every online campaign is all about. Yet determining a site’s PageRank can be a nuisance, and the process for checking multiple sites is almost always slow.

Speed things up with the PageRank Lookup tool. This allows you to enter as many as 100 URLs at a time, click one button, and be on your way, PageRanks in hand (or on screen, as the case may be). You’ll now know which sites need help, and confirm which sites are succeeding.

Just a quick note on 301 redirect and how to use it to preserve your search engine rankings.

It is important to maintain your traffic. If you are redesigning and launching a newer version of your site,
301 redirect is the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for webpage redirection. It’s not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings, established backlinks, and PageRank for that particular page.

If you have to change file names or move pages around, it’s the safest option. The code “301″ is interpreted as “moved permanently”. These directives inform search engines the older page has permanently moved to a new address that’s provided during the redirect implementation process.

Using a 301 will not damage search result positioning because the search engines acknowledge the page from the older design has moved and will keep whatever search engine love intact; this includes PageRank. Backlinks pointing to the older page will also be salvaged, provided the 301 is implemented correctly. Google very much endorses.

301 redirects are powerful. Learning to use them correctly is imperative, especially when you consider the benefits they provide.

Here are most used methods to implement URL Redirection:

IIS Redirect

* In internet services manager, right click on the file or folder you wish to redirect
* Select the radio titled “a redirection to a URL”.
* Enter the redirection page
* Check “The exact url entered above” and the “A permanent redirection for this resource”
* Click on ‘Apply’

ColdFusion Redirect
<.cfheader statuscode=”301″ statustext=”Moved permanently”>
<.cfheader name=”Location” value=”http://www.new-url.com”>

PHP Redirect
<?
Header( “HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently” );
Header( “Location: http://www.new-url.com” );
?>

ASP Redirect
<%@ Language=VBScript %>
<%
Response.Status=”301 Moved Permanently”;
Response.AddHeader(“Location”,”http://www.new-url.com/”);
%>

ASP .NET Redirect
<script runat=”server”>
private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
Response.Status = “301 Moved Permanently”;
Response.AddHeader(“Location”,”http://www.new-url.com”);
}
</script>

JSP (Java) Redirect
<%
response.setStatus(301);
response.setHeader( “Location”, “http://www.new-url.com/” );
response.setHeader( “Connection”, “close” );
%>

CGI PERL Redirect
$q = new CGI;
print $q->redirect(“http://www.new-url.com/”);

Ruby on Rails Redirect
def old_action
headers["Status"] = “301 Moved Permanently”
redirect_to “http://www.new-url.com/”
end

Redirect Old domain to New domain (htaccess redirect)

Create a .htaccess file with the below code, it will ensure that all your directories and pages of your old domain will get correctly redirected to your new domain.
The .htaccess file needs to be placed in the root directory of your old website (i.e the same directory where your index file is placed)

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Please REPLACE www.newdomain.com in the above code with your actual domain name.

In addition to the redirect I would suggest that you contact every backlinking site to modify their backlink to point to your new website.

Note* This .htaccess method of redirection works ONLY on Linux servers having the Apache Mod-Rewrite moduled enabled.

Redirect to www (htaccess redirect)

Create a .htaccess file with the below code, it will ensure that all requests coming in to domain.com will get redirected to www.domain.com
The .htaccess file needs to be placed in the root directory of your old website (i.e the same directory where your index file is placed)

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^domain.com [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [r=301,nc]

Please REPLACE domain.com and www.newdomain.com with your actual domain name.

Note* This .htaccess method of redirection works ONLY on Linux servers having the Apache Mod-Rewrite moduled enabled.

Hope you find it useful.
Enjoy.

Friend of mine asked me this question.

Should I consider registering a second domain name to my site – something like= guitar-lessons.com or guitar-tab.com, For higher SE ranking when people search for those terms. I already have my site registered in all major search engines with a domain name – so will registering it under a second domain be bad or good for my rankings?

Generally speaking, that would be a bad idea. The search engines would treat the two domains as two different sites, and your pagerank would be diluted, etc. If you want to try to rank higher for certain terms, a better idea would be building incoming links with those terms in the link text rather than registering more domains.
