I guess I’ll post this in “Link Building” category even though it relates to “Page Rank”, “Website Traffic” and “SEO” categories.

There is still a debate over certain links hurting your website page rank (like if you link to authority website with no linkback to your site or reciprocal link with Non-Related website…). I believe that any link is better than no link; it’s still a vote in Google’s eyes.

Of course reciprocal link with related website (in same niche) is better than non-related but permanent one way links are the best, it will get your site higher link popularity, page rank and search engine placement over time.

Just a quick note for those who are not familiar with the subject: What is the difference between Reciprocal and One Way Links? Reciprocal link is when you exchange link with another website e.g. you place a link on your site in return for incoming link to your site, it is like a half a vote where one way link is more of a full vote. That is how Google figures your website’s page rank and partially your search placement, of course related content is No.1 factor in determining placement in search results but if two websites have similar or same content, website with higher page rank will place higher in search results.

From this it is very easy to see great advantages in acquiring permanent one way links as they are good quality, the only draw back it is not always easy getting quality links. Another reason why one way links are so important is that you don’t have to worry about the links from sites that are considered bad neighborhoods, what this means is that since your site does not link back to the bad site you do not have to worry about being punished by Google. A bad neighborhood is a usually spam site that is banned from Google.

Links from search engines or web directories are a form of a non-reciprocal linking even though most paid directories have a option for reciprocal link which if than free. In most cases, inclusion in directories will increase your rank as you get high quality links to your site. Link Directories or web directories are sites that are divided into categories, each category will have many different sites with links and descriptions, and this makes it easier for internet users to find what they are looking for. As I said earlier one way incoming links from web directories are more beneficial than link exchanges.

Still, writing articles is the best and most effective way to establish one way links. Do some research on your keywords you are going to use and include this in your bio. Submit your article to as many article sites as possible with your link. Other webmasters will see your article and use it for content on their sites; the condition is that they need to keep your link intact.

When using an anchor text the search engines match the keyword with the words around it so it know if they keyword is relevant to the topic, plus the search engines look at the site to see if there is a correlation. When you hear the term anchor text everyone is referring to the name that is associated with the link that points back to the website. One way links coming to your site with Keyword Rich anchor text is only true beneficial link. Generating links that contain anchor text will skyrocket your website rankings. Links to your site, using your keywords in the link text are still the key to ranking well today.

By submitting your site to Directories and submitting articles to Article Directories you will get some extra free traffic as well. The more articles you write and distribute and the more directories you submit your site to, the more traffic you will receive to your site. One can use this method to try and draw in user traffic as well as use other procedures to bring visitors to their particular site. The best way to increase website traffic is to get the word out amongst Internet users in any way possible.

Social Bookmarking websites and Community websites is the best and free way of spreading the word. Join free communities like Myspace.com, MyBlogLog.com, StumbleUpon.com, SpicyPage.com, Squidoo.com, etc…. and start interacting with users.
I personally use all of these and see traffic increase slowly but surely.

Another great place to get the word out is Yahoo Answers; a lot of times when I search Google, topics from Yahoo Answers come up in top results. So just experiment a bit and see what works for you. There are proven methods of getting better rank and traffic to your website and these days it can be achieved with little or no money it just takes time and a little research but also new ways are discovered every day so be open to new things.
